Surprise! Amazon Seems To Think You’re Pregnant http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/amazon-baby-registry-email_us_59c22fbae4b087fdf5092aa3?section=us_business I recently came across this article indicating that a mass email was sent out to countless Amazon customers notifying them that, “Someone great recently purchased a gift from your baby registry! You can visit your Thank You List to easily keep track of all gifts purchased.” This email caused an uproar of confusion and aggravation to both customers who actually were expecting a new child with baby registries and undoubtably those who were not. Inevitably, customers turned to several different forms of social media platforms to express their irritation with the email, and those who actually did have baby registries did not want to have the option nor did they think it was right to be able to view personal purchases. While the email was clearly a mistake and was later followed up on to be ignored, I believe a large crowd of Amazon users were left despondent. After reading a selection of customer’s responses to the email, I immediately felt sympathy for those who expressed that they had been struggling to give birth in the first place and even worse for those who expressed that they had sadly suffered the loss of one or more miscarriages, rubbing the message in their face. Moreover, the email was inappropriate and I would not be surprised if this technical glitch caused Amazon to lose a crowd of customers due to the insensitivities.
