Plastic or the Planet

The rapid increase of plastic production over the last century is, without doubt, one of the leading causes of the immense pollution around the world today. The Wall Street Journal released an article that I find extremely valuable and interesting as it discusses various "top household brands" and their recent takes on ameliorating this problem. The reading reveals that between the wealthy nations importing plastic and the wealthy companies producing it, both are either limiting intake or modifying the means of packaging respectively. For instance, this year China banned imports of low-grade/single-use plastic while companies producing these products, such as Nestle, Unilever, and Coca-Cola, have recently committed to making their packaging 100% recyclable by 2025. Ultimately, a business's choice to limit association with plastic comes with potential complications with respect to production and consumer satisfaction; that being said, how willing are companies going to be when it comes to sacrificing their high status for the sake of the planet?
