Fluoride in Water:Scientist...

Fluoride in Water: Scientist believe that having fluoride in water would be a good addition to communities, especially the youth. However, there are public opinions against this due to a fear from conditions ranging from acne to thyroid damage. I would love to hear all of your opinions on this topic. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/science-says-fluoride-water-good-kids-so-why-are-these-n920851

Canada Legalizes Marijuana

Austin Gould TC's picture

"Following years of promises from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and months of debate in Canada's Parliament, our neighbor to the north is officially legalizing recreational marijuana for adults as of today, Oct. 17, 2018. The passage of the Cannabis Act on June 19, 2018, and the waving of the proverbial green flag today, ends approximately nine decades of adult-use prohibition."

"I'll win...then I'll figure it out"

In a recent interview with the Detroit Journalism Cooperative, Bill Schuette, a candidate for Michigan Governor, laid out his plan to fixing the roads in Michigan. His plan was simple...

"First, he says, he’ll win the governor’s race against Democrat Gretchen Whitmer in a squeaker. Then, he’ll figure out the details."

Global Warming

Caroline Sisson's picture

People have long fought over the idea that global warming is actually happening and is actually a threat to planet earth. However, a recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate's Change (IPCC) has created some more discussion about the issue. The report warns that if the world can not stop the temperature from rising 1.5 degrees celcius compared to 2, the effects could be detrimental.

Paid Sick Leave in Michigan

Lindsey Simon's picture

The Michigan Paid Sick Leave Initiative is not on the ballot for the November 6th election in the state of Michigan. The measure would have required employers to provide employees with paid sick time. Sick time would be gratned to all employeesfor personal and family health needs as well as issues concerning domestic violence and sexual assault.

What are your thoughts regarding this issue?  Should it have been presented on the 2018 ballot?  Are these claims justified as useful to employees?  Is it just for employers?

Legalization of Marijuana

Michael Sands's picture

In November, Michigan voters will decide whether to legalize the recreational use of Marijuana. Michigan would become the 10th state to do so. It will not be permitted to smoke on the street or in public. Instead, the goal is to decriminalize it, as Marijuana is 9% of Michigan arrests.

What are some thoughts on this? Should it be legalized?

What will the implications be and what effect will it have on crime?

Ballot Proposal 3 -- changing voting policies in Michigan

Jeff Kupperman's picture

Among the items on the Michigan ballot this November is Proposal 3, which would change voting policies in a number of different ways. Here's a summary from BallotPedia. Check it out -- the potential changes are big!

Two questions to consider:

1. Thinking specifically about the interests of students in Michigan, what problems would these changes address, and even more importantly, what problems wouldn't they address?
