New legislation proposed by Democratic state lawmakers would make it possible for drivers to not have to prove US citizenship when applying for a license. This plan, known as the Drive SAFE Plan, would let any Michigan resident that is of age to drive to obtain a driver's license. Major supporters of the proposed legislation are several immigrant groups, unions, religious organizations, and farming organizations. As Michigan is becoming a more diverse state, this plan has tons of support behind it. However, there are concerns that local governments should not be hindering enforcement of federal immigration laws. Do you think this is a good idea?
