Kalamazoo offers the “Kalamazoo promise” to pay for student’s college tuition for those who attend their public schools. It was created to help the struggling school district to encourage their students to find a way to college without taking on tremendous amounts of debt. The program also incentivized more homeowners to buy property and send their children to the city’s public schools. This helped to increase the funding allocated to KPS and allowed students to have the opportunity to go to college.
Should we expand this type of program to other school districts? Would this work in Detroit Public Schools?
