Green New Deal New York Senator Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D) and Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey have proposed a "Green New Deal" which "they foresee as a massive policy package that would remake the U.S. economy and, they hope, eliminate all U.S. carbon emissions." The deal aims to cut carbon emissions while also adding jobs and boosting the economy, especially for the middle and lower classes. However, if it were to pass in Congress, the deal does not create any new programs itself, but rather would show the public Congress's support for potential climate-change-combatting legislature. Opponents of the bill believe it is massively too expensive, as well as the fact that includes a number of aspects (government healthcare, family sustainable wages, and affordable housing among others) that have seemingly nothing to do with converting to a "clean economy." Do you think this bill will pass? Would it be effective if it did pass? What changes would you make?
