This Supreme Court ruling is exceptionally cruel (death penalty)

I recently read this CNN op-ed detailing a recent Supreme Court ruling that will put Russell Bucklew to death by lethal injection, despite the fact that his lawyers have argued he could suffer an incredibly painful and torturous death of convulsions and choking on his own blood given a medical condition he has.

Planned Parenthood Female Empowerment Workshop

I recently attended an event and heard a Planned Parenthood employee speak about ways to increase female empowerment and the tie between birth control and economic empowerment for women. Below are some birth control statistics that were presented at the event:

Political Distrust: Recent National News

I wanted to bring attention to an article that I have found extremely intriguing. If you keep up with the news, you will know that this past week and the past month has put America in a state of distrust for our political institutions. The Mueller reports, Jussie Smollett's dropped charges, the college admission scandal, and more have united Americans across many different political identifications to feel a growing sense of distrust in the many institutions that guide American life.

The LGBT community

As time has progressed, the communities of the LGBT people have widely spread across the United States. More and more people every day "come out" with their identities they associate themselves with. 4.5 percent of adults now associate themselves int he LGBT community, which one full percentage higher than it was in 2012. This article I found in the New York Times discusses a woman named Samantha Allen, who traveled across America reporting her findings about the LGBT community cultures across the states.

Since the New Zealand Shooting...

Last Friday, terrorist attacks on two mosques killed 50 people in New Zealand and left countless others injured. The shooter used a semi-automatic weapon in his terrorist attack, similar to the weapons we have seen be used countless times in US shootings. This morning, Prime Minister Jacinda Arden of New Zealand banned all semi-automatic firearms and high capacity magazines in her country. This law was proposed 6 days after the terrorist attack, and is said to take effect in about three weeks.

Surveillance camera safety

I found this article on the Michigan Daily, which discusses how Detroit has joined the growing list of cities implementing surveillance cameras as a tactic in their efforts to reduce crime. The Project Green Light program allows businesses to pay a fee to have surveillance cameras stream directly into city police facilities. Police then monitor the footage, aiming to catch crime and then track down and arrest the suspects.

Controversy Strikes Fox News

Fox News show host Jeanine Pirro has been stuck in the middle of controversy regarding statements that she made regarding U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar’s patriotism. Pirro opened her show stating that one of the first two Muslim women in congress may not support the constitution due to wearing a hijab. Following this show, Fox News decided to pull her show from its usual time slot over the weekend.

*I had a response from a DACA student, but they preferred to stay anonymous. I scheduled a meeting with the University's legal rep for undocumented students for next week and will update the infographic once I consult with him.
