FAA Understaffed, Flights Delayed

Due to understaffed airports during the government shutdown the FAA had to delay flights out of LaGuardia airport in New York City. Average flights were delayed 2 hours due to the staffing shortages. Stranding passengers, causing delays around the country in a ripple effect. It's estimated that approximately 800,000 employees are in this furloughed situation where they were not being paid for their work, like these airport employees.

Do you believe that transportation services like air travel should be protected regardless of funding disputes? How can issues like this be prevented? Do these problems affect some areas more than others due to transportation infrastructure like ability to get on trains or public transportation?
