Benjamin's proposal on gun violence should be featured on this platform and included more into the discussion. Gun violence is a prominent issue facing our country and it does not get enough attention. According to Giffords Law Center, 36,000 Americans are killed by guns each year—an average of 100 per day. 100,000 Americans are shot and injured each year. Worst yet, In 2017, gun deaths reached their highest level in at least 40 years, with 39,773 deaths that year alone. Gun violence is one of the biggest issues facing our country today as evident by these statistics.

Benjamin does a great job outlining this issue as well as discussing and proposing remedies for solutions. School safety is a big concern, however, it actually might encourage more gun violence. Instituting more school officers, metal detectors, and other forms of security might actually perpetuate an atmosphere of feeling unsafe. This can cause others to get tense and turn aggressive as a natural defensive mechanism. Benjamin should include the thoughts of children and how they feel about school remedies for gun violence.
