Antisemitism

Antisemitism has many roots and has been prevalent throughout history. Early antisemitism was linked to Jews being blamed for the crucifixion of Jesus. Before the holocaust, antisemitism stemmed from stereotypes of Jews as greedy communists. Sadly, since 2016, antisemitism has dramatically increased. With the presidents emboldenment of hate speech and the distance from the Holocaust, anti semites feel empowered to participate in hate speech and hate crimes. The anti defamation league is and international organization that works to fight antisemitism and all forms of hate. They developed hate crimes laws in almost all 50 states, and they consistently keep track of antisemitic incidents. As a young Jewish adult, i feel disheartened by the recent acts of anti semitism- many of which are connected to anti-Israel movements. i would like to see the government do more work with the ADL and organizations of that nature. What do you guys think? Check out the ADL incidence map here.

University of Michigan's Hillel website reports that 14% of the student body consists of Jewish individuals. That is approximately 6,500 students. This is important because every student should feel comfortable and safe no matter their religion.
