As many may already know, Amazon is set to announce where their new headquarters will be, where they are expected to spend billions to create an equal campus to that of Seattle. HQ2 is guaranteed to meet three criteria: tech job growth, tech job growth and tech job growth within the area chosen, but these flashy headlines somethings cloud out some of the true realities of bringing such a large investment to a city at once.
I want to bring this discussion up to talk about the various implications.
Some things to think about:
- Will this new HQ drive up rent to the point where it will push longtime residents out of the city?
- What implication will this new influx of residents have on the character of the city?
- What transportation issues may arise? How about other infrastructure?
- Is there more positives or negatives to landing this huge deal?
