Global warming is arguably the biggest issue our country is facing right now. As we experienced last week with the polar vortex, the environment is something we as humans need to treat respectfully, or climate change will continue to occur. The Earth's temperature in 2018 was more than one degree Celsius, or 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, above the average temperature of the late 19th century. Scientists say that the absolute worst consequences of climate change would happen if temperatures increase by more than two degees Celsius in a single year. Scientists predict that this increase will eventually happen, despite international agreements between world powers to protect the environment. This is definitely very eye opening, as now I feel a sense of urgency to ensure that temperatures do not further rise in the coming years. The article also mentioned that 2019 is expected to be the second warmest year ever, because of El Nino. Do you think countries need to implent harsher rules regarding greenhouse gases? Is there anything we can do that's simple but will make a difference?
